Momentos Históricos. Celebrating Cuba’s Iconic Cigar Anniversaries in 2025

Hello dear reader,

With the Habanos Festival just around the corner, all eyes are understandably on the 15th anniversary of the Behike line, and the atmosphere is charged with excitement. But amidst the chatter and anticipation, several of Cuba’s most important cigar brands are quietly reaching monumental milestones of their own this year. These anniversaries are proof of the timeless appeal and craftsmanship of Cuban cigars, and I felt compelled to shine a light on these brands that so richly deserve our admiration.

So, let’s celebrate these milestones, starting from the youngest to the oldest, and explore why these brands remain as significant today as when they were first created.

Montecristo – 90 Years (1935)

Few names carry the prestige of Montecristo, a brand synonymous with refinement, luxury and exceptional tasting notes. Created in 1935, Montecristo quickly established itself as the benchmark for Cuban cigars, with blends that balance strength, complexity, and elegance. Today, cigars like the Montecristo No. 2 remain iconic, adored by aficionados worldwide.

As Montecristo celebrates its 90th anniversary, it continues to innovate while staying true to its heritage. From the luxurious Linea 1935 to my favourite Edmundo Line, Montecristo proves that even after nearly a century, it can captivate both seasoned collectors and new enthusiasts.

La Gloria Cubana – 140 Years (1885)

Known for its elegance and nuanced flavors, La Gloria Cubana is a brand that quietly commands respect. Created in 1885, it has always represented the subtler side of Cuban cigars, appealing to those who appreciate balance and finesse.

Despite its smaller portfolio, the brand’s loyal following continues to grow. Anniversary releases like the Gloria Cubana Británicas Extras, part of the Edición Regional series, highlight the brand’s ability to produce rare gems that excite collectors. As it marks 140 years, La Gloria Cubana remains a reflection of timeless finesse.

Hoyo de Monterrey – 160 Years (1865)

With its roots in the lush Vuelta Abajo region, Hoyo de Monterrey was founded in 1865 and has become synonymous with delicate, floral, and aromatic cigars. Its lighter profile makes it a perfect introduction to Cuban cigars, while offerings like the Epicure No. 2 remain staples in humidors around the globe.

As it celebrates 160 years, Hoyo continues to innovate with cigars like Monterreyes no4, showcasing its ability to adapt to modern tastes without sacrificing its signature charm.

Romeo y Julieta – 150 Years (1875)

Created in 1875, Romeo y Julieta is a brand steeped in romance and legacy. Known for its rich history and wide range of vitolas, it has long been a favorite among cigar lovers seeking both tradition and versatility. It is definitely one of my favourites, as I find it very well balanced and filled notes on the sweeter

As Romeo y Julieta turns 150, the brand continues to captivate audiences with releases like the Linea de Oro, blending their history with contemporary expectations. This milestone shows the enduring love affair between aficionados and one of Cuba’s most cherished brands, so it was decided it will have a dedicated night at the Habanos festival this year.

Partagas – 180 Years (1845)

As one of the oldest Cuban cigar brands still in existence, Partagas has a reputation for boldness and complexity. Its famous factory in Havana remains a pilgrimage site for cigar enthusiasts, proof of its enduring legacy.

In 2025, Partagas stands as a beacon of tradition and quality. Its D4 remains one of my favorite robustos to come out of Cuba, while its Regional Editions and Limited Edition releases (Partagas Tropicales comes to mind) continually intrigue collectors. At 180 years old, Partagas proves that boldness never goes out of style.

Punch – 185 Years (1840)

The oldest brand on this list, Punch was founded in 1840 and has long been associated with approachable sophistication. Known for its balanced profile and consistent quality, Punch has become a staple for aficionados who appreciate craftsmanship without pretense.

As it celebrates 185 years, Punch continues to its legacy while honoring its storied past. Releases like the Punch 48 reflect its ability to remain relevant and beloved in an ever-evolving market.

These anniversaries represent the dedication, artistry, and resilience of Cuba’s finest cigar brands. Each of these names has shaped the cigar world in unique ways, creating a legacy that spans generations. As we enjoy the excitement surrounding Behike’s 15th anniversary, let us not forget the monumental achievements of these brands that have passed the test of time with flying colors.

For me, these milestones are a reminder of why I fell in love with cigars in the first place. Each brand has a story, and every anniversary is a chance to celebrate the artistry that make Cuban cigars so special. If you enjoy the power and boldness of Partagas, the romance of Romeo y Julieta, or the elegance of Hoyo de Monterrey, these brands continue to inspire and unite aficionados around the world.

As we light up our cigars this 2025, let’s toast to the past and look forward to the future of these remarkable brands. They are not just names on a cigar band, for some they are the heart and soul of Cuban cigar heritage, and their stories will continue to unfold with every cigar we smoke.

Wishing you rich flavors and good company, until we meet again.
